The London Endovenous Laser Clinic
For the minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins

Sweeney Chaloner Surgical Chambers

Welcome to the London Endovenous Laser Clinic

This website provides information for patients with varicose veins on the technique of EVLT and how it differs from ‘standard’ varicose vein surgery. About a third of the population will suffer with varicose veins, which can be quite uncomfortable. Endovenous Laser Treatment, or EVLT is one of the latest developments in varicose vein treatment. Originally pioneered in the United States , it is now being used in a few centres in the UK and was the subject of a favourable NICE report in March 2004.  Consultant vascular surgeons Mr Eddie Chaloner and Mr Aaron Sweeney offer EVLT for patients with varicose veins, both privately and on the NHS at a major London hospital.

We have a special interest and expertise in varicose veins and offer the full range of options for patients seeking varicose vein treatment. In particular we have a large experience with laser treatment for varicose veins and perform approximately 50 EVLT cases per month. In our experience about 70% of patients with varicose veins are suitable for EVLT. As fully trained vascular surgeons we are able to offer open surgical options for patients whose varicose veins are not suitable for EVLT.

Eddie Chaloner graduated from Oxford University in 1989. After house jobs in Oxford he trained in surgery in London and South Africa.

He was appointed as a consultant vascular surgeon at University College Hospitals London in 2001, moving to Lewisham Hospital in 2005.

He has a particular interest in varicose veins and especially in minimally invasive varicose vein treatment. He was the first surgeon in London to use EVLT (endovenous laser treatment) to treat varicose veins. With over 300 successful cases he is one of the most experienced surgeons in the UK with this way of treating veins.
